Happy Friendship Day!
Check your mail, check your SMS, it’s Friendship Day wishes everywhere! Let’s take the scenario say, a decade back. Did we celebrate Friendship Day as we do now? (Of course, I don’t celebrate it in any special way even now) Did we wish anyone a Happy Friendship Day those days? In spite of that, didn’t we all have so many friends? If I don’t wish my friend a Happy Friendship Day, does that mean I am not his/her friend or vice versa?
Why is everyone falling prey to all the marketing tactics adopted by the shops selling Greeting cards, gifts, friendship bands, etc.? I don’t believe in celebrating days like these at all since I don’t see the need to have a separate day for celebrating friendship or whatever it may be.
Nowadays, the mobile service providers too have started cashing in on the popularity of ’special days’ like these by charging 25 paise/SMS instead of free SMS. But, has it made any difference to anyone? People do keep sending Friendship day wishes from midnight. (Thankfully, SMSs being charged doesn’t make any difference to me since I use a postpaid connection and till now, they don’t seem to be charging for that) I have got tired of reading all those senti lines saying you are my true friend, your friendship is the one I treasure most, blah blah blah for the past one week (Oh yeah, it was Friendship Week last week!).
Anyway, I wish all my friends and my dear blog readers (after all, for nearly 9 months now, I have been sharing the things I enjoy in life with you all
) a very Happy Friendship Day!
Talking about Friendship Day, I would say the two best songs (having very good lyrics) to celebrate friendship with are Mustafa Mustafa and Oru Nanban Irundhaal (Enakku 20 Unakku 18). ![]()

Hello Aparna,
Sathej
Really, I knew about Friendship Day this morning only from some advertisement in Sify. I have only a few friends and believe it or not, till now, I haven’t wished them nor have they wished me. Not an SMS or a mail! I don’t appreciate it too. What is this all about? Expressing friendship only on a particular day!? Beats me.
Anyway, since you have wished, I follow suit - for the record, the first wish today, wish you a happy friendship day

worst logic - frndship day !! infact on similar lines .. i hate father mother daughter niece valentine-lover’s , days !!naatla vera velai illa !!
i’d stray a bit away from Rahman to Ilayaraja to sing Kaatukulla Manasukkula - for frnd ship !! i guess Mustafa is no 2 !!
Katukulla is way too much … mind blowing lyrics and the percussion is fantastic !! Mani and Ilayaraja comba masterpiece !!!!

Is this post an Oxymoron?

> reading all those senti lines
Yep! Sentiment shudn’t be conveyed. It shud be felt, rather.
Aparna on 06 Aug 2007 at 5:17 pm #
Sathej,
Good that you didn’t know about it all these days.
Sreekrishnan,

I just tried a new template since this one has been one for quite sometime now. But, i didn’t like it at all! So, back to the old theme

It didn’t bite me as much as it has bitten you

I beg to differ…Infact,I am surprised that I am the only one to differ…Its very similar to the argument on “Why wud someone go to a temple to pray if God is omnipresent” [Comparin this with ‘why wud u mark one single day in a calendar year to wish your friends’] ….This argument , like many others , will have 2 groups(all of them theists, ofcourse) of unrelenting debaters goin at each other’s throats, often resulting in a stalemate…However, in this case I find I am the only one who differs from the rest of the responders and the author ofcourse. That said, I totally agree with Ms.Aparna’s comment that occasions like this are being exploited(sometimes to extremes) by the marketing sector….Happy Friendship Day to y’all- Though I am a newbie to this part of the cyber
Aparna on 08 Aug 2007 at 8:41 am #
Pr,
Well I was wondering why no one felt that a separate day is really needed for celebrating friendship and there you go
