Kannamoochi Yaenada
Everybody knows that this song is based on raagas, Nattakurunji and Sahana. But when this album was released, I didn’t even know the raaga Nattakurunji, which incidentally has now become one of my favourite raagams!! And neither did I identify the Sahana part in this song at that time! It was only after a few years that I was able to exactly identify the raagas in the song and started enjoying the classical beauty in it. So, this song being based on classical raagams was not why I liked it instantly on seeing the trailer itself - Aishwarya’s teasing looks, a blushing Tabu, a handsome Ajith, the colour of the costumes & finally, the music! - I liked it all! Later when I saw the entire song, I liked it even more. I would put this song in the category of those Rahman’s songs that have been picturized very well. What about you?
Incidentally, the very first time when I watched the trailer of Alaipayuthey (Snehidhane song) was right after watching the trailer of Kandukondain Kandukondain featuring this song. At that time, I liked this trailer more than Alaipayuthey! :O Anyway, I really wish Rajeev Menon takes a movie soon and Rahman composes music for it. Hope that happens soon!

Horrible director. Good cameraman. I cant forget Minsara Kanavu. God! And KK was a pathetic movie too. Could not sit in the movie hall.

It is indeed a terrific song! And I don’t know much abt raagas too, but I try to read about them in the web. And abt the trailer/movie comparison, in my opinion Alaipaayuthey beats KK hands down.

F e r r a r i,
Oh I love KK. It’s one of my all-time fav movies.
Arvind,
I like konjum mynakkaLe too
You can always learn about raagams if you wish to
Arun,
Welcome to my blog
Yeah Alaipayuthey is of course the best!!

I remember Chitra mentioning in one of the programs that this song is not a mix of any ragam and is only one. I dont know .. she said that and she also mentioned it was a challenging song for her.
I love the voice of Yesudas in it. esp. when he says “Paar Kadalil aadiya pinnum….”
But i think the best of all the song in Ka Ko Ka Ko is Sandhana thendralai…
As a Director the movie is more flashy - i dont think Minsara kanavu was any closer to be called a good movie… but i somehow feel kakokako was much better - was subtle ..

one of the few movies where i enjoyed arr’s score - truly melodious - i wonder if he did may maadham too as u hint or maybe mentioned in one of ur other pieces, as that too was exceptionally picturized by p.c.sriram with terrific songs that ages very well both onscreen and on stereo - no one has captured the smell of fresh madras air in the morning better than pc

Ok…I have no idea about the ragas but as far as I remember this movie came a long time back. And was that Ajith in it? I didn’t knew that.
I have seen just one Tamil movie called “Khaka Khaka” and I don’t know about the ragas but I loved the songs.

Rajiv menon is just good enough for Ads. There is no coherency at all in the movie. One can’t make a full length film with such a mindset. He should try and graduate into making full length movies.

Sreekrishnan,
Oh. But if I am correct, the lines naan enna peNN illaiya en kaNNa adhai nee kaaNa kaNN illaiya are in Sahana. I like the female version more than the duet. Also it has one more extra para
This is one movie where all the songs are brilliant. I can’t call any one song as the best since I like all of it except suttum vizhi very much.
Yeah this move is much better than Minsara kanavu.
Sriram,
PC captures everything so well!
Great to know that you enjoyed ARR’s music
Amit,
Yup Ajith was there. Even I don’t know about the raagas in the songs of Kakka kakka but I like only some two songs in it. Btw, there are better movies than Kakka kakka in Tamil. Try watching some.
Arvind,
Hope you start enjoying Carnatic music someday
Gk,
Welcome to my blog! I liked this movie and I didn’t feel so.

I like songs in this movie but not this movie. Sema bore ! That too abbas suddenly entering aishwarya’s home and start telling barathi kavithais ! Thangala ! egapatta scens itha mathiri ! Though the concept of the movie as a whole is good and camera is good, it is poorly made. Ajith, mammotty, tabu vara scenes ok. mathapadi, i dont like this movie.
Rajeev menon is best in cinematography, let him do that instead of directing it.
