Continuing from my weekend post, kanDa naaL mudhal is one of my favourite movies. Though as is the case with most of the movies, I didn’t watch this one too until it was shown on TV (Thank God it was shown within a few months of its release), I liked it so much the very first time that I watched it that I immediately got a DVD and watched it again!

Unlike most of the other movies, this one has no unnecessary characters like hero’s good-for-nothing friends, no comedy track, no skimpily clad herione, no gaana songs. With the story revolving around the three charcters, Ramya, Krishna and Arvind and their families, the scenes and dialogues are so natural and the movie moves at the right pace that you find yourself lost in the world of Ramya and Krishna. Right from the movie title, I like everything about this movie. Though I have never liked Laila, this is one movie in which she suits the role perfectly and acts well too. Prasanna too is a good choice for the role. Karthik Kumar does what he does best - come & poNNu patthufy like ‘Alaipayuthey’ and Prince Jewellery Ad. :P The background music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is also good (the Reetigowlai BGM that comes in many scenes is a superb one!).

There are too many scenes in this movie that are my favourites. The fight between Ramya & Krishna as kids, Krishna’s reaction when he realizes that the girl singing in his college is the same one who bit him when they were kids, Krishna getting bulbed when he realizes that Ramani Amma is right there in his house when he is complaining about her, Ramya struggling unsuccesfully to tell her parents about her sister’s love affair and instead ends up making them start looking for an alliance for her, Krishna’s sister teasing him about Ramya, Krishna trying to convince Arvind to marry Ramya with his reverse psychology (nice dialogues!) and the scenes where Krishna & Ramya start realizing that they are falling in love with each other and lots more! What are your favourite scenes, if any?

The wedding in the beginning and the two cute little kids fighting with each other, Krishna’s sister teaching music at her home (reminds me of Shobana teaching music in ‘thalapathy’ & Radhika teaching dance in ‘pagal nilavu’) and the poNNu patthufying scene are some scenes that reminds me of Mani Ratnam’s movies.

Except kaNDa naaL mudhalaai, even though I don’t like any of the songs in this movie, I felt that pani thuLi and maerkke maerkke suit the situation perfectly. I did like these two songs for sometime after watching the movie. But they failed to impress me after repeated hearings.
