I visited guruvayoor many years back. At that Time they had two gaint tortoise and the temple staff claimed that these tortoises were at least 400 years old (I am not sure of the lifespan of a tortoise). Are these tortoises still there?

with the history of me being pseudo-named after the deity and the having the "first food" in that temple, i feel that the temple must change policy of allowing people who "believe" in GOD and Worship.

Last i heard, they still dont allow Dr. KJYesudoss inside the sanctum sanatorium but plays his song inside.

Disappointing !

Dandilsa,
Try to include that in your plans in your next trip to India :)

Harii,
:) Journeys through countryside are always nice, esp., if it's in God's own country ;)

Mahesh,
We were planning to visit the sanctuary this time itself. But we didn't have time.

Next time if you get a chance, don't miss the Elephant Sanctuary run by the temple itself. It's about 5kms away and has about 50 odd elephants, either belonging to the temple or sick ones which have come for cure. The entrance is about 20 rupees [can't remember exactly] and you can walk around with elephants all over the place.

After the omni-present rush at the Guruvayoor Temple its a welcome break to be in the midst of trees and elephants.

Its good that you have noticed all minor details with all the pushing around you ;). Yes Guruvayur is a wonderful temple to visit. The Last time when i visited the temple I took the Coimbatore - Palaghat - Thrissur - Guruvayur route. The journey though a long one was so refreshing. Excellent contryside.. very scenic and memorable.
