I agree the publicity for this movie was too much, as the publicity becomes more and more , people's expectation also increases. I would also say that Abhishek was not upto mark, he need much more maturity in acting. The role would have been better performed by Akshay kumar or Saif ali khan (The langda tyagi of Omkara). The best thing about the movie was the shooting locations, the background score (credit to Rehman Sir).

The story was quite ok since the story of Ramayan was familiar to me. Overall I would say it a 'one time watch' movie.

I do not know if Raavan, or Raavanan was good. I know for sure that both are not as good as Ramananth Sagar's Ramayan that captivated the audience for few years.

Coming to the pre-release hype and publicity, I was very surprised to see the song sequences being shown in entirety in the music launch and movie launch functions. That in a takes away the surprise element.

If you see how Shankar launches his movies, you will notice that they never show real song videos until few weeks into release of the movie.

I am also surprised that Mani for all his good name and fame has not been able to weave a totally new story, unconnected to some real life figures or mythology. His Iruvar, Thalapathi, Guru and now Raavan are all not new stories!

Oh... Raavanan was so good leaps and bounds! Mainly due to lead characters.
