If there was one thing that I looked forward to while travelling by bus to college, it was reading books during the travel time. Whenever I used to read an unputdownable novel when travelling by bus in the morning, during the day, the only thought in my mind would be when I can I continue reading the book. During breaks between classes, whenever the lecturer gave a free period, during lunch or even when the lecturer pauses for a few minutes, my hands would instantly go for the book and even if it meant I would get the time to read just a few lines, I never missed the opportunity to continue reading the novel. I did the same thing in school too ever since my class 7! I used to manage my time efficiently between reading novels and attending classes. But, things changed when I was in the latter part of my third year. The number of books that I read while travelling by bus reduced and I started sleeping in the bus. Earlier I used to hate sleeping in bus. Though I did read a few books in bus even during the final year of my college and during the past one year of my work, I never really read it with as much enthusiasm as earlier. Besides, the number of books that I read in the last 2 years is very less compared to earlier. I hardly read 15 books in the past 2 years!! I would partially blame my addiction to reading blogs for this!

I recently read Jane Austen’s ‘Sense and Sensibility’. I had earlier tried unsuccessfully to read her ‘Pride and Prejudice’. I didn’t read beyond 15-20 pages. I found it so boring. That experience made me think twice before starting to read this book. Since Rajeev Menon’s ‘Kandukondain Kandukondain’, one of my favourite movies, is based on ‘Sense and Sensibility’, that is the only reason why I wanted to read this one. Though I did manage to read the book quickly, I did find it quite boring.

The characters in the book didn’t seem to do anything apart from partying and gossiping (It’s written that some of the characters are facing a money crunch, but do they do anything to earn more money?) and all the female characters except the Dashwoods seemed to be so dumb. Reading about Elinor’s and Marianne’s sufferings didn’t move me even a single bit. Did any of you like this book and enjoyed reading it? If the answer is yes, then what did you like in this book?

I finished reading ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ a little more than an hour back! Spoiler Alert: Please don’t read the rest of the post if you are one of those Potter fans who haven’t read the book yet and don’t want to know what happened in the book before reading it!

With less than 12 hours to go before I can lay my hands on the 7th and most probably the final book of the Harry Potter series, I am very excited! I will make my next post once I am done with reading the book. Hope the book turns out to be as good as the earlier ones.

Is what I spent the weekend with! After having had a great weekend, I am not at all complaining about having to work late today also!
Movies
I finally managed to watch the 2 movies that I have wanted to watch for a long time now, but somehow kept missing, Munnabhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munnabhai, and I liked both the movies very much. I watched these two back to back on Saturday. Yesterday, I watched Bunty Aur Babli for the third time. Wish Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee act in more movies! The main reasons for which I like or rather I don’t find this movie boring is Abhishek and Rani and the music. Though many say that the movie is sans logic or something like that, I like it. Makes for a good time pass.

Back to writing about things I like. (Ok ok I know I wrote only one post about things I don’t like). By the way, I had written only half of this post when I found that my friend Brindha had also written about her favourite books in her blog today! Talk about coincidence! Btw, we both have somewhat similar taste when it comes to books. After music, it’s books that I enjoy the most. However, the past one year, the number of books that I am reading has come down. I hardly read some 1 or 2 books a month these days.
Now, a list of my favourite books/authors:
1. Perry Mason series by Erle Stanley Gardner
No one can match Perry Mason’s wit when it comes to arguing cases in court! I am yet to read only 15 of the total 86 Perry Mason novels. That is because I am not able to get hold of those. 2. Robin Cook’s novels
Initially, I used to hate reading about stuff related to medicine. In fact, I stopped reading ‘Coma’ halfway. But, I decided to give Robin Cook’s novels a try once more and got hooked onto it. I am yet to read only one book of his.
3. Erich Segal’s novels
The first book of Erich Segal’s that I read was ‘Doctors’. It is my most favourite book now. The best thing about Erich Segal’s books is the way he describes the human emotions, feelings. He makes sure that you are able to relate to the feelings of the characters. (I will try to come up with a separate post on Erich Segal’s books sometime soon.) Though I like all his books, apart from ‘Doctors’, my other favourites are ‘Only Love’ and ‘Man, Woman and Child’. I have read these 3 books many times.
4. R.K.Narayan’s books
Any Indian will be able to relate to the characters in his novels.
5. Harry Potter
I started reading it only after the first 4 books got released but like many, I have also become crazy about Harry Potter. I am eagerly waiting for the next book to get released.
6. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
7. Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson
These two books are the ones that I found inspirational.

Other books that I like (I don’t like these as much as the ones that I have listed above):
1. Dan Brown’s
I liked ‘Angels and Demons’ more than ‘Da Vinci Code’.
2. Kane and Abel, The Prodigal Daughter and Shall We Tell The President by Jeffrey Archer

Books that I don’t like reading:
1. Sidney Sheldon’s
2. Mills and Boon - So many of my friends are crazy about it!

Book am currently reading:
Fountainhead by Ayn Rand - I still have some 300 pages left.

To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee
