Surin Park, Singapore

Surin Park has now become one of the parks in Singapore I regularly visit. This small yet beautiful park has walking paths covered by the shade of several trees including a tamarind tree which is among the list of heritage trees of Singapore. Nestled among posh independent houses and across the road from only one series of HDB (Housing Development Board) apartment blocks, this is in a very calm and peaceful locale.

Taking in the lush greenery lining the paths and pointing out the various butterflies and tiny insects to my kids, I just love walking through this park. With shelters having benches, a kids play area and an exercise area, this park, away from the noisy roads, makes for a perfect place for relaxing with family. It makes for a nice change to have the buzzing of insects for company, instead of the noise made by vehicles, isn’t it?

The Cluster of Pink

Rain in Singapore is generally an almost everyday happening. I remember Feb-Mar last year had relatively less rains than the rest of the year. But this year, it has been even worse. There has been a continuous dry spell for several weeks now. I didn’t realize the full impact of it till I went to Botanic Gardens last week, which, by the way, is one of my most favourite places in Singapore.

Sunny Day

I love the first sunny day post rainy days. The birds come out of hiding chirping loudly, the wet/cold clothes finally get back to being fully dry, the roads start drying up, the body comes out of the lazy feeling which the rains bring with it, the song playing changes from the cozy ‘Moongil Thottam’ to the peppy ‘Hello Mister Edhir Katchi’. Did you notice how Harini carries off the two contrasting songs with ease? She is one favourite singer of mine. What is the song that you’re listening to on this sunny Wednesday?

Spring is here!

And it’s now time to enjoy the yellow of the Copper Pod flowers and the pink of the Rain Tree flowers!

It’s raining!

My sister and I are video chatting now, excitedly discussing about Mani Ratnam’s movies, when she tells me that somebody’s status message says ‘It’s raining in Chennai’. I was so engrossed in talking about Mani’s movies that I didn’t even know that it’s raining here! Stepping out of the room, the maNN vaasanai greeted me. How blissful rains in the midst of scorching summer is!

Rainbow that made my day!

Rainbow captured on my mobile at OMR today morning:

tumne dekhi hai dhanak to, bolo rang kitne hain
saat rang kehne ko, phir bhi sang kitne hain
samjho sabse pehle to, rang hote akele to
indradhanush banta hi nahin

(Lines from the song yeh tara woh tara)

Sights and Sounds of nature!

Voiceless version of Worldspace theme is playing. As I look out of the window of the bus, I see a group of about 20-30 birds flying over some backwaters (or is it not backwater?). The scene somehow looks beautiful. Within a few seconds, I see another group of birds flying, those together forming a V-shape. Voiceless version of worldspace theme has already ended and even as I am enjoying the sights of nature lost in Rahman’s music, the same theme with voice plays and I hear Rahman say, ‘It’s the sound of nature. If you listen carefully, there’s music in everything.’ 🙂 Moments like these are what make life beautiful, even if only for a few fleeting seconds, even when nothing else is going great in life. Thank you yet again, Rahman!

A nice morning!

Blogging from bus continues and I am enjoying it.

The green leaves on the trees on OMR appearing greener and fresh more than usual, thanks to the raindrops falling on those. The slight cool breeze peeping through the window, which I have kept open just an inch or so. Listening to Rahman’s music made all the more blissful by Hariharan’s voice singing the beautiful lyrics of pacchai nirame 🙂 Monday begins on a pleasant note 🙂 Hope you all have a great week ahead!
