Alaipayuthey (The Grand Finale)
The wedding:
If the wedding where Karthik and Shakti met first was so colourful and had a joyous atmosphere, their own wedding is not far behind in these aspects. Right from Madhavanās blue shirt and Shaliniās maroon saree to the white garlands and the group of friends and Shaktiās sister pulling their legs and the Registrar making his presence felt through out his screen time, everything is picture perfect! Shot at Kapaleeswarar Temple, the wedding of Karthik and Shakti is the most beautifully picturized wedding sequence in Mani Ratnamās films what with āMangalyamā scored by Rahman playing in the background. š After Karthik cleverly manages to dodge Mrs. Prema outside the temple and runs in, the beat of the song starts and you have Karthik taking the garland in his hand. If Mani Ratnam doesnāt utilize the songs appropriately, who else will? š

Alaipayuthey (Part 4)
Here I am celebrating the movie Alaipayuthey and the producer of this movie is now no more! š I was shocked to read about the sudden demise of G.Srinivasan, Mani Ratnam’s brother cum producer of Alaipayuthey and all the other movies produced under the banner of Madras Talkies. š May his soul rest in peace.
Moving on to the post, starting with the first meeting of Karthik and Shakti, it couldn’t have been picturized any better what with the joyous atmosphere of a wedding, friends and relatives pulling the leg of the bride and the groom and an excellent song by Rahman in the background! There can’t be anyone who doesn’t enjoy the conversation between Karthik and Shakti. š
Alaipayuthey (Part 3)
During Karthikās search for his lost wife, two scenes worth mentioning are the one where he meets his mother-in-law (this happens to be the first-ever scene that Madhavan shot for the movie) and the one where he goes to the police station to enquire what happened to the FIR that he had filed saying his wife is lost.

Alaipayuthey (Part 2)
Karthik and Shakti don’t have the courage to face each other with each one consumed by guilt of their own. Though Karthik speaks freely with his house owner and tells him the mistake that he had done by not taking her to meet her dad, he doesn’t say that to Shakti. Had he told her that in the right manner, wouldn’t the strain in their relationship have got eased out?

Gayathri Venkataraghavan’s Concert
Yesterday was the first time I went to a concert of Gayathri Venkataraghavan. If I remember correctly, the first time I listened to her sing on TV was about a year and a half back. At that time, I didnāt like her singing much. After that, I didnāt listen to her much. But, a 4-hour concert yesterday was too tempting to miss. Since the only thing that I wanted to listen to was Raagam Taanam Pallavi and being a 4-hour concert, there was no way an will not be sung, I went only at 6pm to the concert that had started at 4 itself. The next 2 and a half hours turned out to be the best part of the day what with the concert turning out to be an excellent one! I will surely go to Gayathri Venkataraghavanās next concert if I am free on that day!

T.M.Krishna’s Concert
I went to a concert of T.M.Krishna yesterday, after a long time. Do I even have to say how it was? š This being the only concert of his this month in Madras, it’s going to be a long wait before another TMK’s concert! Sigh!
Caught in the jam
After having suffered caught in the traffic jam on Old Mahabalipuram yesterday afternoon, I thought about what could have been done by all the IT companies and the colleges on the road to avoid the jam.
Considering the fact that there was a traffic jam till only before Tidel Park, the reason for the jam was obviously, all the companies’ buses starting at almost the same time. If all the companies that have large number of buses and the colleges had co-ordinated amongst themselves and each one had started their buses after an interval of say, some 15 minutes, after another companies’ buses started, I don’t think the traffic jam on the road would have happened and everyone wouldn’t have had to suffer because of it and the Chennai heat.
What do you people say?
Forgot to add the most important point here: The buses of the company closest to Tidel Park should have started first followed by the others with the buses of the one that is farthest starting last. Couldn’t all this have been arranged in a few phone calls itself?
