Category Archives: Life’s Like That

Phew!

The last thing I expected to do on a Friday morning, forgetting all thoughts about the impending weekend, was to be forced to do a lot of thinking. This is happening, thanks to all your comments for my previous post. How much ever one might support plagiarism, I don’t think it is fair to copy lines from somebody else’s post. If it’s all right to do that, then I can actually write a dozen posts here every week, copying lines from multiple sources. At the end of the day, what is achieved because of that? A link to the original post is all I expect. If you like the lines written by somebody else so much and feel that those would be the apt lines to use in your post, then go ahead and use it. But do that after giving the source of those lines.

As for there is nothing called your own thought, agreed that all thoughts are triggered from something or other. And I do agree that two people can get the same thought. But that’s irrelevant here. On a lighter note, otherwise, why would there be the saying, ‘Great minds think alike’? 😉

Why are you making me think so much right in the morning, when there is no mistake on my part? Should I really not take this seriously? All I wanted was for the person to know that it’s not fair to copy somebody else’s work without so much as a mention about them. I would have done the same thing if the lines copied were from some other blog too. Anyway, now that I have done that, should I not do anything more about this?

Plagiarism

The previous post was just a warm-up of sorts since I didn’t want the very first piece of my writing for the day to be started on an angry note. Nothing can match the joy of writing and seeing your thoughts, observations and experiences getting transformed into words. Sometimes, the writing turns out to be as good as you thought it would be and, sometimes, it wouldn’t turn out to be as good as you thought it would. But that is not the point of this post.

How would you feel when from one such writings of yours, a piece which you wrote with so much passion, you see many lines lifted and used directly in somebody else’s writing? And not just that, it has even won a prize too in some competition! How can people indulge in such plagiarism? When you ask the person about it, the reply you get goes something like, ‘Yes I copied some lines from your post, because those were nice’. What a lame explanation! A writing competition is meant for judging your own writing, how you write, how you express yourself and more importantly, your OWN thoughts/expressions/whatever. Not for judging something which you copied from somebody else’s writing and passed off as your own!

More than seeing my lines being used, what irritated me even more were the lame explanations that were given.

Good Morning!

I bought a new mobile, Nokia Xpress Music 5130, recently. Blogging from it is much more easier than from my previous mobile, 6233. So, since I am in a mood to write something, here I am happily typing away, even as I am travelling by bus. I wanted to read P.G.Wodehouse’s ‘Hot Water’, but that will have to wait. Looks like even blogging has to wait now, since water drops are falling on my head from the roof of the bus! But I can’t find any other good seat either. So I might as well continue typing. The recent rains have brought the leaky roofs back in action! There was a time when water used to ‘pour’ from the top of my bus in some places even when it didn’t rain! Weird, it was! With the good intention of not boring you all with my ramblings anymore, I am ending my post right here. Good day, folks!

Bidding adieu to laziness and apprehensions!

That’s what this year has been all about till now.

After several unsuccessful attempts at trying to be regular in going for a walk or doing exercise in the mornings, the reasons for those attempts turning out to be unsuccessful being my laziness that stopped me from waking up early, I finally reached a point where I myself got tired of being lazy and on one fine day, on the spur of a moment, I decided to join yoga class the very next day itself!

Good Evening!

Good evening everybody! The day began sans any Monday blues. But as the day progressed, I was down with severe head-ache. It got so worsened that by evening I was in such a grumpy mood. Not even the surprise drizzle cheered me up. Head-ache still continues. 🙁 And yeah grumpiness continues too.

I am so happy that Federer finally won the French Open! Yay! 🙂 I know this ‘Yay’ is coming very late. But there was some problem with internet at home yesterday. 🙁 I watched the historic moment yesterday. Did you watch it?

I watched Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na yesterday and I didn’t like it. To me, the best story ever told about best friends becoming lovers has surely got to be Erich Segal’s ‘Doctors’. It takes the best friends in ‘Doctors’ almost 40 years to realize and accept that they are in love with each other. But when it finally happens, how happy the readers too feel along with the couple!

I had my first guitar class on Saturday and I got a black acoustic guitar. Though I just learnt to play the open strings, still it felt great to hold a guitar in my hand and play it 🙂

There are those friends with whom you once spent hours talking over phone/chatting/SMSing. But then comes a point of time when the friend becomes so busy with other things that there’s no time for everyday calls or chats. And after that comes a time when you finally call after a long time and you realize that you have nothing at all to talk. 🙁 But as there are two sides to any coin, there are those friends whom if you meet even after a long time, you can talk just like old times. 🙂

Let me end my rambling right here. Even blogging doesn’t seem to be giving me the diversion from my head-ache. Bye folks!

P.S.: I couldn’t think of any proper title either 🙁

Guitar

The year 2005 was when I first listened to Prasanna’s guitar in a concert of his at Music Academy during the December Season. Though I liked the concert, it wasn’t until I got a chance to listen to a couple of songs from his album, ‘Peaceful’ – ‘Peaceful – The Cause’ & ‘Peaceful – The Effect’ (his own compositions) – that I fell in love with Carnatic music on guitar. The next December Season saw me going for some 3-4 concerts of his. It was after that, that I first listened to his ‘Bliss Factor’ – a beautiful composition in Ananda Bhairavi & Sahana. After that, it wasn’t just Prasanna’s playing or Carnatic on guitar, but the very sound of guitar itself started fascinating me like never before. The guitar interludes in July Maadham suddenly seemed more beautiful than before. 😉 Meanwhile, I happened to listen to a Dwijavanti played by Sai Prasad on guitar, which, I must tell you, was awesome!

Kakuro

Trying in vain to read a book in bus today morning, I thought I will solve the sudoku in today’s Ergo. By the time I was halfway through it, Kakuro given below sudoku caught my eye. Have been glancing through this paper for more than a year now and yet I never seem to have paid attention to it. Googled and got to know how to solve it. Got some old issues of Ergo from a sudoku-crazy friend and have since then been solving one puzzle after another!

Time flies!

Or so it feels like when I see the date of my last post here. So what’s been keeping me away from blogging?

Wanting to try some author I haven’t read before, I borrowed a couple of books of Sudha Murty from the library on the Monday before last. I first started reading ‘The Old Man and His God’ and liked it so much that I finished reading it at a stretch on the same evening. Finding ‘The Wise and Otherwise’ too equally engrossing as the previous book, the next day had me reading it at every possible free moment I could get. I can’t remember the last time I found a book as inspiring as these two! Reading those books made me do some serious thinking about a lot of things.

Unplanned Plans…

This is yet another post where I will not reveal what I am talking about. You are most welcome to skip reading this post.

Most plans of mine don’t seem to happen as planned. Last minute confusions, tensions have always been there, threatening to make the entire plan go topsy-turvy and most of the times succeeding in doing so too. I have now got used to it so much that when it happened yet again, I was not disappointed at all. The key to that was, of course, not having had an expectation of things happening as per plans at all, in the first place. Anyway, it finally seems like end of confusions now! 🙂 I only hope that at least the rest of the ‘unplanned plan’ goes smoothly as planned.

P.S.: How many times have I used the word ‘plan’ in this post?!
P.S.1: Couldn’t help remembering the quote, ‘Life is what happens when you are busy making plans!’
