ARR wins BAFTA Award! :)

And I am celebrating it by listening to some of my all-time favourite songs of ARR 😉

minnale, ishq bina, en mEl vizhunda, pudhu veLLai mazhai, thenkizhakku cheemaiyile, Atthangara marame, mellisaiye, ennavaLe, yeh jo des hai tera, kaNNamoochi, New York nagaram and lots more!

Poonguyil Paadinaal

I started listening to the song, poonguyil paaDinaal from nammavar after a long time today and have been hooked to it ever since. Flute interlude before the vocal part of the song begins, guitar, simple beats, SPB’s and Chithra’s singing, some beautiful lines (poonguyil paaDinaal nalla sangeetham, kuzhandhayin azhugayum nalla sangeetham, oasai ellaam theerndhu poanaal aedhu sangeetham, satthangal illaadha mounangaL sangeetham), this is one of those songs that I would put under the category of feel-good songs. Except this and sorgam enbadhu namakku, I have not listened to other songs from this movie. Should listen to those soon…

Experiencing the magic of Rahman’s music!

If you cannot be the real you with even those whom you consider to be close to you, then, with whom can you be the real you? When your mind is burdened with all these thoughts and more, what can pull you out of all those feelings and transport you to a state of indescribable bliss in a jiffy? What else but, Rahman’s music! 🙂 It happened, thanks to Benny Dayal’s concert in Saarang. I didn’t even know till a couple of days before the concert that Benny Dayal was also going to perform on the same night as Sonu Niigaam. And little did I expect that I would enjoy his concert more than Sonu Niigaam’s!

What should I name this post?

  • Was feeling so bored sometime back. Genda Phool, Dil Gira Dafatan, Hey Kaala Bandar, Latika’s Theme, Dreams on Fire, Sandeep’s Palaya Sada and Sanjay’s Ee Vasudha (Sanjay’s Sahana! Bliss!) later, I see no signs of boredom. 🙂
  • There were a lot of things that I wanted to do during the long weekend. But now, the 3 days seems to have passed by in a jiffy without me doing most of the things I planned to do. 🙁
  • A 2-hr long program on radio where so many celebrities spoke about ARR, 2 ARR’s interviews in the morning and one more in the evening, Special episode of Super Singer – a treat for Rahmaniacs! 🙂
  • There’s a concert of T.M.Krishna today evening 🙂 What will be the main? Todi? 😉 I will mostly not stay for the full concert since I want to watch ARR’s interview!
  • I want to write posts on Chithra Madhavan’s Talk on ‘Kanchipuram – Art, History & Architecture’, Mylapore Festival and Sonu Niigam’s and Benny Dayal’s concerts at Saarang. When there is so much to write about, why am I not writing?
  • Nothing other than the clichéd random thoughts comes to my mind when I think of a title for this post!

Latika’s Theme

is my current favourite. Been listening to it on a loop for more than an hour now. Haunting, soothing, soulful piece of music! Just the right song to listen to when there is lots going on in your mind. Hmmm!

A day sans music?

I realized just now that for the first time in more than a couple of months, today I didn’t listen to any music at all till now! There are times when one prefers silence to music. Hmmm! But hey, I guess I will after all, listen to music while watching Super Singer tonight.

Rahman everywhere!

You switch on the TV – It’s ARR on all the news channels!
You open any newspaper – It’s Rahman again!
You check any blog – Posts about Rahman!
You check any website – So many articles on Rahman and interviews with him!
You log into GTalk/messenger – Rahmaniacs chatting about the man and his music! 🙂
And above all, you spend most of your waking moments listening to Delhi 6 and Slumdog Millionaire tracks!

The past one week has been such a great one for Rahmaniacs! One couldn’t have asked for more! 🙂

Margazhi Musings

Before all those non-Carnatic-music-listeners skip reading this post thinking that this is yet another post on the Season, let me tell you that this has nothing to do with that. This is all about what the month of Margazhi meant to me before I started going for concerts. Say Margazhi and the first thing that comes to my mind is kolams, especially, colour kolams (rangoli). Margazhi meant half-yearly holidays and hence, a visit to grandmother’s place where all cousins gathered. And no half-yearly vacation was complete to us without kolams and each one of us used to put separate kolams most of the times.
