Listening to an album of A R Rahman for the first time – There is nothing else that can match the excitement felt at that moment. 🙂 And as usual, Rahman doesn’t disappoint you this time too. All the songs are good. But, something seems to be missing in most of the songs. Sometimes on listening to a song for the first time, you get hooked to it instantly and would not want to move on to the next song at all. There seems to be no song that fits into this category even after listening to all the songs continuously for more than 7 hours now. So I guess it’s going to take quite some time for me to start liking the songs of ATM in the way I like the songs of Rahman.

Navaratri
This post has been in the draft for a more than a week now. I thought I will post it before Navaratri ends!
There are quite a lot of things to look forward to during Navaratri, a festival lasting the maximum number of days compared to all others – Kolu, Sundal, Kolu bommais for sale at Mylapore/T.Nagar/Khadi (I might have missed some places) in various sizes and shapes, visiting friends and relatives, they in turn visiting your house 🙂 , special alankaraam at most of the temples for ambAL, doing poojas for books (padikkaramo illaiyo bookskku poojai mattum correctaa poattuduvom 😉 ), vehicles, etc. on Saraswati Pooja and above all, singing almost everyday! It’s that time of the year when your singing skills are put to test what with everyone asking you to sing as soon as they know that you are learning music. At the same time, no one is spared from letting their singing talent from being exposed 😉 While there are some people who, I don’t know why they want to sing in the first place and subject everyone to torture with their singing, jump at the opportunity to sing as soon as they are asked to, there are others who really sing well and who leave you wishing to listen to their singing more. I don’t belong to either of the categories 😉 While I am at the topic of singing during Navaratri, I thought I would give a warning to all girls who sing. Girls, beware of guys like this one 😛 Cha kaalam romba kettu poidtthu 😛

Azhagiya Tamizh Magan
After listening to the trailer (I don’t know how anyone can tolerate watching Vijay!) of Azhagiya Tamizh Magan here continuously for almost an hour now, I must say all the songs seem to be good. 🙂 I can’t wait to listen to the songs fully. Eagerly waiting for Monday! 🙂

Sanjay’s Concert
After missing concert after concert of T M Krishna and Sanjay Subrahmanyan for one whole month 🙁 , I finally went to Sanjay’s concert last Friday. The very thought of listening to Sanjay live after a long time had me excited the whole day and as expected, the excitement doubled up once the concert began. 🙂 With M.A.Sundaresan accompanying Sanjay on the violin, do I even have to say how the concert turned out to be? 🙂
Starting off with karuNai kadale in Kalyani, Sanjay then sang nannu kanna talli in Sindhukannada. A nice Reetigowlai Alapana followed next. Right after he started the song Paripalayamaam in Reetigowlai, I left the concert since I had some work and came back when he had started singing an alapana of Danyasi. After a couple of songs (Japa kusuma in Danyasi and Koniyadedu in Kokiladhwani) came the main piece of the concert – Maragatavalleem in Kambhoji. I got to listen to yet another wonderful Kambhoji by Sanjay! The icing on the cake was the Raagam Taanam Pallavi in Priyadarshini raagam that he sang right after the Kambhoji! I happened to know the existence of a raagam called Priyadarshini only on that day and it was amazing! It was only after this RTP that I came to know that the song that I had missed during the time I was not at the concert was Kamalamba navavarnam in Sahana replete with alapana, neraval and swarams! I missed Sanjay’s Sahana!!!! 🙁 All happiness at listening to a wonderful Priyadarshini gone! 🙁
After listening to aarukkum adangadha in Begada that he sang next, I got reminded of some of the wonderful Begada alapanas of Sanjay that I had listened to a few years back. I wish I get to hear him sing Begada as the main piece soon. The last song of the concert was a very beautiful Tillana in Ananda Bhairavi, yet another favourite raga of mine.
After attending such an excellent concert I was left confused as to which concert should I go to on Monday, Sanjay’s or TMK’s? Why did both of them have to sing on the same day at the same time? 🙁 Want to know whose concert did I finally go to on Monday? Wait for the next post 😉

Passion Rediscovered!
If there was one thing that I looked forward to while travelling by bus to college, it was reading books during the travel time. Whenever I used to read an unputdownable novel when travelling by bus in the morning, during the day, the only thought in my mind would be when I can I continue reading the book. 🙂 During breaks between classes, whenever the lecturer gave a free period, during lunch or even when the lecturer pauses for a few minutes, my hands would instantly go for the book and even if it meant I would get the time to read just a few lines, I never missed the opportunity to continue reading the novel. 🙂 I did the same thing in school too ever since my class 7! I used to manage my time efficiently between reading novels and attending classes. 😛 But, things changed when I was in the latter part of my third year. The number of books that I read while travelling by bus reduced and I started sleeping in the bus. 🙁 Earlier I used to hate sleeping in bus. Though I did read a few books in bus even during the final year of my college and during the past one year of my work, I never really read it with as much enthusiasm as earlier. Besides, the number of books that I read in the last 2 years is very less compared to earlier. I hardly read 15 books in the past 2 years!! 🙁 I would partially blame my addiction to reading blogs for this!
