Happy Birthday, Rahman!

Wishing A.R.Rahman a very happy birthday! 🙂

As I was scrolling through the December Season schedule for the nth time about a week or so back thinking with a sigh that the Season was going to end soon what with Sanjay’s last concert of the Season being on Jan 5th, it dawned on me that the next day was Rahman’s birthday! (Pardon me for mentioning about the Season yet again! But I have been obsessed with Carnatic music big time during the last one month that these days, no conversation seems to happen without a mention of it happening!) Can there be a better way to celebrate Rahman’s birthday than listening to your favourite Rahman’s songs and losing yourself in the man’s music? 🙂 And that too when you are listening to the songs after quite sometime, I can’t tell you how happy it feels!

To me, listening to a Rahman’s song isn’t just about enjoying the music, experiencing the magic of Rahman’s music and marveling at how he comes up with such amazing compositions alone. Considering the fact that Rahman’s songs have been the ones I have grown up listening to, there are a whole lot of memories associated with quite a lot of songs. The memories range from something as mundane as me eating a Diary Milk when I was listening to some song to some momentous one like me celebrating the successful completion of some work listening to a song. Last year, during what was one of the worst weeks, Kabhi Kabhi Aditi really worked wonders for me. With each passing day, there are only a lot more memories getting added to all those wonderful songs. And with Rahman giving us more and more awesome songs, Rahman’s music continues to fascinate me more and more. 🙂 Thank you, Rahman!

Wishing Rahman a very happy birthday once again!

The year that was!

A major part of the first half of 2008 saw me being down with boredom. And then, there was this bloggers’ block. The no. of unfinished posts lying in my drafts written during that period stands testimony to that. These apart, though 2008 was better than 2007, still quite a few things which I wish had not happened, happened. But hey, now is not the time to dwell on all those. There are lots of moments to cherish and a lot of other things thinking about which makes me so happy.

Reading one of the most beautiful love stories, Erich Segal’s ‘Only Love’, for the nth time. What a great start to the day! Looking forward to the rest of the day being as great as the beginning! 😉 Good Morning & Happy Weekend to you all!

Carnatic Music & Me – Part 1

As I was chatting with my friends over lunch yesterday, the conversation drifted to December Season and before I knew it, I was happily talking non-stop about the Season. None of my friends go for concerts or are interested in Carnatic music much. Despite that, the moment I get started about my passion, there’s no stopping me. 🙂 Talking about how excited I have been for the past two days ever since I saw Sanjay’s December Season schedule and talking about what an aural treat his concerts are going to turn out to be, etc., etc., I started reminiscing about Carnatic music and kutcheris. And born out of that reminiscence is this post – a post that I have wanted to write for a long time now.

Rahman Rocks!

Today has been a musically very very satisfying day since I started the day with Rahman’s songs and till this moment, I have been listening to Rahman’s songs at every free moment I could get. Even though you know you keep saying this so very often, yet there are moments when you are completely lost in Rahman’s blissful music and all you can say is ‘Rahman, you rock!’ No words will ever be enough to express the magic of Rahman’s music and no words can do justice to the brilliant music he creates. These are moments when I feel so happy and proud to be a Rahmaniac. Now is one such! 🙂

Tu Meri Dost Hain

I listened to all the songs of Yuvvraaj once on Saturday and liked all the songs on the first listening itself. 🙂 I again listened to the first 4 songs alone on Sunday. After that, I got the time to listen to the songs again only yesterday. Tu Meri Dost Hain was the song that I listened to first and got hooked to instantly. I have been listening to it on repeat mode for more than 2 hours now! What a beautiful song! Captures your heart right away!

The initial humming, the interlude between the humming and the opening lines aaja main hawaon mein, Awaaz hoon main in varied tunes, the entry of Shreya’s beautiful awaaz singing raat mein chandni, the line main khayalon ki mehek hoon, the lovely interlude at 4:14, Rahman’s amazing singing, the swaras RSRSSRSR right after sargam par chalti hain, ….the list is endless! Love every moment of this song sung so amazingly by all the singers!

I am in no hurry at all to listen to the remaining songs. I am going to take my time and get immersed in the beauty of the songs one by one. 😉

Bombay

At first look, this movie starts off as just another love story set in a village. A guy getting floored by the beauty of a girl – that’s all. Unlike Rishi (Arvind Samy) and Roja’s (Madhubala) in Roja or Karthik (Madhavan) and Shakti’s (Shalini) in Alaipayuthey or Manohar (Karthik) and Divya’s (Revathy) in Mouna Raagam or for that matter, even Gautam (Prabhu) and Anjali’s (Amala) in Agni Nakshatram, which are love stories where their initial courting scenes to the scene where they express their love for each other itself are some unforgettable scenes, with the dialogues making them all the more memorable, this movie doesn’t have any of those. Except for the scene where Shekhar (Arvind Samy) gets into the same boat as Shaila Bhanu’s (Manisha) and tells her of his love, there are practically no dialogues between the two of them. But that’s where the song, ‘Uyire’ comes in – there couldn’t have better words than the lyrics of the song to express their love for each other.

The Best Song Ever!

8 years it has been since the song got released. Still it is the only one song that I wouldn’t hesitate to call as my most favourite one among everything I have listened to till date. Be it Tamil, Telugu or Hindi, it is one of the few songs which sounds beautiful in all the languages, though I must admit that I don’t understand most of what is sung in Telugu. It does not matter whether it is Hariharan or Sonu Nigam who is singing it. Both their voices suit the song perfectly. And what should I say about the variety of emotions it evokes in me today? Whenever I remember all those wonderful times I spent with my sister discussing about this song endlessly after we first listened to it, both of us watching the video of this song on repeat mode almost every single day after watching the movie and becoming absolutely crazy about it, later listening to the Telugu version of this song and realizing that it sounds as nice as the Tamil version (unlike most of the songs) and listening to that too on repeat mode, the Hindi version too getting added to the list after a few years, all the while becoming more and more passionate about Rahman’s music and Mani Ratnam’s movies with every passing day – Oh it makes me so nostalgic! When I think of the times I have immediately cheered up on listening to/watching this song or when I found this song to be the greatest stress buster after a stressful day, all I can do is say a big thanks to Rahman and Mani Ratnam for giving us such a lovely song and wonder about the power of music! When I think of the times when I was so happy and watching/listening to this song made me all the more happy, I know that’s the magic of Rahman’s music and Mani Ratnam’s picturization of it only makes it all the more beautiful! And what about the times when just thinking/talking about this song, brought a smile to my face instantly? 8 long years and yet nothing has changed. Even today, our faces light up immediately if we see the song playing in one of the channels while channel surfing! Even today, this is the song that I turn to when I am so irritated with a lot of things or am feeling a bit stressed. Even today, I consider watching this song to be a great way to unwind at the end of the day. And even today, the mere mention of this song is enough to bring a smile to my face. 🙂 And till date, this song has remained THE best picturized song of Rahman and I am sure it is going to remain that way forever! The combination of A.R.Rahman’s music, Mani Ratnam’s excellent song picturization, Vairamuthu’s beautiful lyrics and P.C.Sreeram’s cinematography at its best! Now don’t tell me you don’t know which song this one is! 😉

A.R.Rahman’s ‘The Live Life Concert’ – When dream came true!!!!

February 10th, 2007 – Till then, the only dream that we (my sister and I) had was just to get a glimpse of the man whose music meant the most to us. On that day, it got fulfilled!!! We are yet to believe that it wasn’t a dream after all! 🙂

February 9th, 2008 – Little did we expect that exactly a year later, we will get to see A.R.Rahman again and that too see him perform live in a concert!
