(Un)related
Came across this quote somewhere:
‘I am related to people I don’t relate to’
Anyone knows who said it? And, what do you all have to say about this quote?

No idea who said it! Google too doesn’t seem to have an answer.Anyway, I don’t quite agree with it.How can you not be related to people you don’t relate to? I mean it is just contradictory to the very meaning of ‘related’. Maybe, the person who said this might have wanted to say something to the effect that none of his relatives relate to him!Too much of relations-I’ll stop here.

I feel the same too most of the times. Maybe, somebody should do research on customizing what relations we want and don’t want and the particular time period when we want specific relations. Sounds a little rough to even me, though I cooked it up..Anyway, I quite like the line

never fear when your resident calvin and hobbes fan is near.
words of wisdom spoken by bill watterson through the mouths of calvin.
the full quote goes,
“mom and dad drive me crazy. they don’t understand me, and i don’t understand them. it’s hopeless. i am related to people i don’t relate to”

another poignant piece
“how come we play war and not peace”
“too few role models”

i agree with the quote..

thats how life is .. . vice versa also true.

I agree to Calvin/Adiya!
Here the resultant is: Double the relationships.

> “I am related to to people I don’t relate to”
The context in which Calvin (from the famous comic strip Calvin and Hobbes, by Bill Watterson) says is that, he differs in opinion with his parents.
Differs in opinion : Don’t relate to
Parents : people who he is related to

Sathej,
On a serious note, the relations you don’t relate to will help in you in developing an ability to tolerate/ interact with different kinds of people. What say?
So you got it?! Daneel seems to have reduced my work
Neethi,
Customizing relations? That’s asking for a bit too much, isn’t it?
Daneel,

But. not Calvin’s part about parents though
Thanks for letting me know! I have become a fan of C&H only very recently.
The other two quotes are great too!
Btw, happy blogging Daneel!
Adiya,
Yup vice versa is true too
Ranjhith,
I too agree with Bill Watterson/ Calvin/ Adiya
Badhri,
Welcome to my blog!
He might have said that about his parents. But, that line on its own speaks volumes!

Was reading the comments section….The comments seem 2 be longer than the posts
Me is one big Calvin Fan…
This is Calvin’s utterance :O
Wow…Sooper
This statement is so very true…We don’t psychologically relate ourselves to each and every family member of ours…Just for the sake of the relationship, we might talk in a very sweet manner to some random aunt/ uncle…This doesn’t mean, we relate to each other psychologically…This statement definitely holds true for me
Sathej on 16 Jun 2007 at 5:59 pm #
I too agree, now that I have got the statement in its correct context.
