This is one movie where I liked all the songs the first time I listened to them itself. :) And the more I listen to each song, the more I like it! But, as I started listening to the songs of ‘Ada’, one thing that struck me was almost all the songs had an already-heard-before feel to it. This is just an observation and not a complaint. ;)

Ishq Ada – Rashid Ali/Parul Mishra

Amazing song! I love both the versions of this song! Rashid Ali and Parul have sung it so beautifully! Parul has sung it in a more classical way than Rashid. My sister and I feel that this song is based on shubhapantuvaraLi raaga. Parul’s version shows the touches of shubhapantuvaraLi clearly.

The first time I listened to this song, the starting reminded me of pooTTukkaL poaTTaalum from Shatriyan. I remember reading somewhere that somebody else also found this similar to that song. Doesn’t the accordion at 2:52 sound similar to the opening accordion of the song Sundari from Kannatthil Muthamittal?

Hawa Sun Hawa – Sonu Nigam & Alka Yagnik

A very soft, melodious, romantic song with Alka and Sonu singing the beautiful lyrics with so much feel that you can yourself feel the love and longing felt by the lovers. The flute that makes an appearance at the end of almost every line bringing out the same feel brought out by Sonu and Alka’s voices even without any words, the lovely flute interludes before and after the 2nd stanza, the piano that comes at around 4:00, all these had me completely bowled over by them the very first time I listened to the song itself! I loved the flute interlude at 1:44 so much that I have kept it as my mobile ring tone now. :D When the few seconds long flute interludes throughout the song are themselves so beautiful, I wonder how beautiful the song would have sounded had the flute alone been there, minus all the vocals! How I wish an instrumental version of this song had been released! What I like about this song is that even though Sonu repeats some lines after Alka or vice versa, the way they both have rendered the same lines in their own style with all the emotion needed for it, is amazing!

- simple lyrics, yet so beautifully rendered, these lines are! I love the way Sonu and Alka have sung it!

The aajaa re aajaa re part of the line meri sadayeen tujhko bulaaye saamne aaja re is exactly similar to a line in the song paaDavaa from the movie Little John.

Gum Sum – Sonu Nigam & Alka Yagnik

For the past few years, Alka Yagnik’s voice has been sounding shrill and too strained in most of the songs. But in this album, her voice surprisingly sounds nice in all the songs. I wonder when all these songs were recorded. Should I even say anything about Sonu’s singing? ;) He is brilliant as usual! This is a superb song with nice beats. I love the beat at 3:42. It gives a perfect ending to the song. The lyrics of this song are like the usual Hindi songs with lines like khudh se mujhe kya hone laga, mujhe apna lage saara jahaan, etc.

Gulfisha – Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan & Viviane Chaix

What is the meaning of gulfisha? It’s not there in the dictionary too. Opening with Viviane’s vocals followed by Sonu and then Sunidhi, this song keeps shifting between the vocals of the three of them, with each being in completely different styles! Excellent song! This song being in complete contrast to Hawa Sun Hawa, just observe how Sonu can sing any type of song with so much ease!

Meherbaan – A.R.Rahman

With Rahman singing it so brilliantly as usual, listening to this song is pure bliss! I had written that Khwaja Mere Khwaja is a song to listen to when you want to be with just peace. Add this song too to that. Just listen to this song with eyes closed and silence all around! Wow!

Raquueb Alam has written the lyrics for Ishq Ada and this song. His lyrics has more of Urdu words than Nusrta Badr’s, isn’t it?

The opening piano of this song reminded me of Shauk Hai.

Tu Mera Hai – Chitra, Sukhwinder Singh, Naresh Iyer

For the past couple of days, I have been listening to this song on repeat mode for God-knows-how-many-times! I just love every bit of this song! If it was the longing of the lovers to meet each other that was expressed in Hawa Sun Hawa, this song has them going ya rab shukriya, jise chaaha mil gaya, jise doonda woh mil gaya. I love the transition from tu mera hai mera mera hai to the ya rab shukriya in upper octave. Chitra, Sukhwinder and Naresh are brilliant in this song! The interludes with Naresh’s voice leaves you wanting more of his singing! The interlude at 3:13 is nice.

The opening lines ‘Tu mera hai mera hai’ reminded me of ‘Mere saare’ from Kabhi Na Kabhi. Some lines here and there have a Pyaar yeh jaane kaisa hai song (from Rangeela) feel to it.

Hai Dard – Udit Narayan

There couldn’t have been a better voice than Udit’s to express the dard so well! I need to listen to this song some more.

Milo Wahan Wahan – Alka Yagnik & Jayachandran

This is the lengthiest song of this album yet I for one, wanted the song to go on for some more time. Soft beats, soothing music, pleasant interludes and soulful rendition by Alka and Jayachandran - What a great combination they make together! This song sort of puts me in a contemplative mood and I guess this will be the song that I will listen to when I want to be alone with my thoughts. :)

It took me a few listening to realize that this music that sounded so familiar is the one that comes as a BGM during the climax in Kannatthil Muthamittal. Since then, considering the fact that Rahman has been composing for Ada for quite a few years now, I was wondering if this was first composed for KM climax or for this movie. I finally got my answer from this message in ARR Fan Club. Anyway, Telephone maNipoal came as a BGM in Roja and later the full song turned out to be an awesome one, So gaye hai from Zubeidaa came as a BGM in Bombay and that song turned out to be one of the most beautiful compositions of Rahman. And now this tune came as a BGM in Kannatthil Muthamittal and this song is also very nice! :) Waiting to see which BGM from Mani Ratnam’s movie will next be made into a full song. ;)

Meherbaan (Instrumental) – Guitar by Sanjeev Thomas I love guitar and this guitar instrumental is a fitting finale to an album full of amazing songs! Meherbaan in Rahman’s voice or Meherbaan in guitar? Tough to choose, isn’t it? ;)

It’s not often that there are 10 songs in a movie and all 10 turn out to be excellent ones! The choice of singers for all the songs is perfect too!
