The year 2005 was when I first listened to Prasanna’s guitar in a concert of his at Music Academy during the December Season. Though I liked the concert, it wasn’t until I got a chance to listen to a couple of songs from his album, ‘Peaceful’ – ‘Peaceful – The Cause’ & ‘Peaceful – The Effect’ (his own compositions) – that I fell in love with Carnatic music on guitar. The next December Season saw me going for some 3-4 concerts of his. It was after that, that I first listened to his ‘Bliss Factor’ – a beautiful composition in Ananda Bhairavi & Sahana. After that, it wasn’t just Prasanna’s playing or Carnatic on guitar, but the very sound of guitar itself started fascinating me like never before. The guitar interludes in July Maadham suddenly seemed more beautiful than before. ;) Meanwhile, I happened to listen to a Dwijavanti played by Sai Prasad on guitar, which, I must tell you, was awesome!

More recordings and concerts of Prasanna later, I had decided that if I ever learn to play some instrument, it will definitely be a guitar that I will learn to play! But Carnatic on guitar was what I wanted to learn, for which I wasn’t sure if I would find anyone to teach. Yet the desire to play guitar started becoming stronger by the day and a few weeks back, I finally decided that it doesn’t matter if it’s Carnatic or Western music and I am surely going to give guitar learning a try. What sealed my decision to go in for learning Western music was the chance I will get to listen to a genre of music that is totally unfamiliar to me. There is this friend of mine who already knows some basics of guitar playing who wanted to learn too and we both decided that it was high time we both stopped wasting time anymore.

So, finally, I have joined guitar class! :) Muse’e musical, from where, it seems, even A.R.Rahman took piano lessons, is where I have joined. :) Classes are beginning only on Saturday next week. Since this is something that I very badly want to do, I am excited about it and I really hope I am able to play well. I can’t wait for the class to start! :)
