Saunf & Jeera

Why does jeera/cumin seeds sold in most of the shops have saunf/soambu/fennel seeds mixed in them? I hate the taste of saunf while I love jeera. Be it Foodworld or More or some other supermarket or a small provision store, nowadays, saunf seems to be mixed with jeera almost everywhere. If I buy jeera once from a shop and find that saunf is not mixed with it, the very next time, it too seems to be having saunf in it. Using the jeera for cooking spoils the taste of the dish. š

Ask Shahnaz
As most of you might have noticed, āAsk Shahnazā is a weekly column in Metro Plus in which beautician, Shahnaz Hussain, answers questions on beauty tips. I am not interested in any of those beauty tips or home remedies. Boredom was what prompted me to read the questions and answers in that a long time back. When I next read the column, I found that only a few questions were new. For almost a year now (or more than that?), I have been browsing through the questions in that quite often. I see most of the questions are getting repeated too often. The most common questions are āSkin is oily/dry/dull, there are pimples/pimple marks on face, hair is dry, hair loss, hair has split ends, has dandruff, etc. Please suggest some tips/home remedies.ā There are very few questions apart from the ones above. I wonder how long she is going to answer the same set of questions again and again! I have no clue about the answers that she gives since I rarely read them. Anyway considering how long this column has been on and how so many questions are pouring in, seems those are the most common problems people have and there are way too many people obsessed with ālooking beautifulā. š

Weather & Climate
I have often wondered why many generally use the words climate and weather interchangeably.
Quoting the meaning given in the dictionary.com from The American Heritage Science Dictionary,
Weather – The state of the atmosphere at a particular time and place. Weather is described in terms of variable conditions such as temperature, humidity, wind velocity, precipitation, and barometric pressure. The average weather conditions of a region over time are used to define a region’s climate.
Climate – The general or average weather conditions of a certain region, including temperature, rainfall, and wind.
Why do many say that the climate on a particular day is nice or bad when weather is the word that should be used? Talking about weather, I hate the weather in Chennai today! I wish it would stop raining. Roads are so messy.
It’s Irritating!
Why are some people hell-bent on irritating others ALWAYS?! š”

Bureaucracy, incompetence and stupidity
I was reading Robin Cook’s ‘Crisis’ sometime back and there was this line ‘Three things that never failed to rile him were bureaucracy, incompetence and stupidity, especially when they occurred together, which they often did.’ Isn’t this a line we all can relate to? Made me wonder if there would be anyone who doesnāt get vexed up when these three occur together?
The book by the way, though not unputdownable as some of the other Robin Cookās, is pretty good till now. I still have a little more than 100 pages to read….
A tag that interested me
I came across this tag in SK’s blog. For a change, a tag that had questions that interested me. Here goes the tag.
Q1. Are you happy/satisfied with your blog, with its content and look?
Yes about the look part of it. I like the theme of my blog so much that I donāt have the heart to part with it and give my blog a new look. š As for the content, well, I wish I had more time so that I can write much better and write more.
Q2. Does your family know about your blog?
Yes.
Q3. Do you feel embarrassed to let your friends know about your blog or you just consider it as a private thing?
Nope. My blog has only the things that I discuss with friends. Besides, all my close friends already know about my passion for Carnatic, Rahmanās music and Mani Ratnamās movies, which are the primary contents of my blog. But still, I wouldnāt tell everyone about my blog.
