Rekha’s Boutique, Usman Road, RmKV

The months of July & August are a shopaholic’s delight, since there is a sale going on in almost every other shop! Pothys, RmKV, Chennai Silks, Mokshaa, Pantaloons, Westside to even Jute Emporium, Metro, Woodland, etc. etc.! Seeing the newspapers filled with all the ads announcing the sales, it’s hard not to be bitten by the shopping bug! 😉 And the result of that is the shopping I did in Rekha’s Boutique last month and in RmKV yesterday.

FAQs by non-kutcheri-goers/non-Carnatic-listeners

Recently, as someone typed a surprised smiley when I told him that a majority of the concerts here are ‘All are welcome’ ones, I remembered the numerous instances when my same reply was met with the same response from so many people and how Carnatic music still remains unfamiliar to many people. I also remembered the questions that Puranjoy had asked in this comment, to which I have still not replied.

In love with Madras

As I was reading Dandilsa’s post on why she wants to return to India, I realized how much I could relate to what she has written. Of course, I am already here. In fact, except for a few months of staying in another city, I have never been, forget about being away from India, been away from Madras itself. Guys, you are most welcome to skip this post unless you want to read it for educational purposes like this person here. 😛

Boat Club Road

I always enjoy going for a walk in Boat Club Road. The moment you enter Boat Club Road from Chamiers Road, you feel as though you are in another world what with the chirping of birds and the huge trees that do not let in much of sunlight and a very calm atmosphere. It’s just you, your thoughts and silence that are present (with the chirping of birds in the background 😉 ), with the silence occasionally broken by the sound of a vehicle passing by or by the sound of a few people (either those going for a walk or the watchmen/servants of the big bungalows) talking amongst themselves not so loudly. You need no music when you are in there 🙂 You just won’t have the heart to come back to the busy, noisy main road. 🙂

Madras

Yesterday, just as I started typing a post for Madras Day, there was a power cut. When it came back within 10 minutes, I started again when the current went off again! When the same thing happened for a third time ( 🙁 ), my Dad said, ‘Power cuts, bad roads, traffic jam, crappy ‘Hindu’ newspaper, Cooum River. This is Madras. You might as well write a post on that.’ But, I said, ‘There are two sides to every coin. 😛 ’
