When luck strikes thrice! :)

My sister and I had gone to Odyssey to get ‘Ada’ CD and I was just paying the money for it when guess who entered the shop!! Madhavan!!! :O We were not able to believe it!! We went and said ‘Hi Madhavan!’ and he said Hi. I then said we liked his movie, ‘Evano Oruvan’ very much and he said a Thank you and said he was just back from a shoot. He had come there with his son. I then asked if I can take a photo of his and he said he was just back from a shoot and he was all black. He anyway obliged and I took one with my mobile. We then thanked him and left. We anyway, didn’t want to disturb him.

But the photo has not come out well. šŸ™ Considering the excitement in which I was, I would have been surprised had it come out properly. šŸ˜‰ Anyway, here’s the photo:

This is the third time I am seeing Madhavan! šŸ™‚ The first time was at Essen Musicals at Alwarpet where he had come along with Simran and Keerthana for the launch or rather promoting the CD/Cassettes of Kannatthil Muthamittal. The second time was at the DVD launch of Mani Ratnam’s movies by Mani himself where Madhavan spoke about his experience of working with Mani Ratnam. So luck struck for the third time today. šŸ™‚

Ambikapathi

Yesterday being a holiday, I was doing channel surfing hoping to find some good movie to watch.

  • A Simbu movie on Sun TV – Who can watch him on screen for 2.5+ hours! 😐
  • Some boring movie on K TV (featuring Sibiraj?)
  • Mozhi on Kalaignar – this movie can be watched only once & I have already watched it once. Of course the movie was good, can be watched with the whole family, etc. But I couldn’t find anything great in this that would make have made me want to watch it again and again. I don’t like the kaaTrin mozhi song either.
  • Ilayaraja concert on Raj TV in which whenever I saw, Ilayaraja was only singing – There are times when I wonder if he knows how bad his voice sounds! He is a genius music composer who has given so many wonderful songs and I wish he had stopped with that and not started singing his songs.
  • IPL cricket match on Set Max – Cricket fails to interest me even one bit.
  • Ambikapathi on Mega TV – Yeah Mega TV was the channel that finally came to my rescue.

kaNDa naaL mudhal

Continuing from my weekend post, kanDa naaL mudhal is one of my favourite movies. Though as is the case with most of the movies, I didn’t watch this one too until it was shown on TV (Thank God it was shown within a few months of its release), I liked it so much the very first time that I watched it that I immediately got a DVD and watched it again!

Come weekend

and I am watching at least one movie on TV.

Right after I wrote about the song, kadavuL uLLamE, the movie, anbuLLa Rajnikanth was telecast on Kalaignar TV that weekend. Though I wanted to watch that song alone first, I ended up watching the whole movie. I anyway, didn’t remember anything about the movie since it had been more than a decade since I watched it. This is one movie that has so many moments that are sure to bring tears to your eyes. But thank God, I didn’t cry at all. Still that movie did leave me feeling sad. šŸ™
Note to self: Don’t watch sad, serious movies.

Bombay

At first look, this movie starts off as just another love story set in a village. A guy getting floored by the beauty of a girl – that’s all. Unlike Rishi (Arvind Samy) and Roja’s (Madhubala) in Roja or Karthik (Madhavan) and Shakti’s (Shalini) in Alaipayuthey or Manohar (Karthik) and Divya’s (Revathy) in Mouna Raagam or for that matter, even Gautam (Prabhu) and Anjali’s (Amala) in Agni Nakshatram, which are love stories where their initial courting scenes to the scene where they express their love for each other itself are some unforgettable scenes, with the dialogues making them all the more memorable, this movie doesn’t have any of those. Except for the scene where Shekhar (Arvind Samy) gets into the same boat as Shaila Bhanu’s (Manisha) and tells her of his love, there are practically no dialogues between the two of them. But that’s where the song, ā€˜Uyire’ comes in – there couldn’t have better words than the lyrics of the song to express their love for each other.

kadavuL uLLamE

One scene that has always remained etched in my memory ever since I watched it as a kid is a scene from the song, ā€˜kadavuL uLLamE’ from the movie, ‘anbuLLa Rajnikanth’. I am sure almost all of you would have watched this song many times, since that used to be often shown on the programme, ā€˜oliyum oLiyum’ on DD.

The Best Song Ever!

8 years it has been since the song got released. Still it is the only one song that I wouldn’t hesitate to call as my most favourite one among everything I have listened to till date. Be it Tamil, Telugu or Hindi, it is one of the few songs which sounds beautiful in all the languages, though I must admit that I don’t understand most of what is sung in Telugu. It does not matter whether it is Hariharan or Sonu Nigam who is singing it. Both their voices suit the song perfectly. And what should I say about the variety of emotions it evokes in me today? Whenever I remember all those wonderful times I spent with my sister discussing about this song endlessly after we first listened to it, both of us watching the video of this song on repeat mode almost every single day after watching the movie and becoming absolutely crazy about it, later listening to the Telugu version of this song and realizing that it sounds as nice as the Tamil version (unlike most of the songs) and listening to that too on repeat mode, the Hindi version too getting added to the list after a few years, all the while becoming more and more passionate about Rahman’s music and Mani Ratnam’s movies with every passing day – Oh it makes me so nostalgic! When I think of the times I have immediately cheered up on listening to/watching this song or when I found this song to be the greatest stress buster after a stressful day, all I can do is say a big thanks to Rahman and Mani Ratnam for giving us such a lovely song and wonder about the power of music! When I think of the times when I was so happy and watching/listening to this song made me all the more happy, I know that’s the magic of Rahman’s music and Mani Ratnam’s picturization of it only makes it all the more beautiful! And what about the times when just thinking/talking about this song, brought a smile to my face instantly? 8 long years and yet nothing has changed. Even today, our faces light up immediately if we see the song playing in one of the channels while channel surfing! Even today, this is the song that I turn to when I am so irritated with a lot of things or am feeling a bit stressed. Even today, I consider watching this song to be a great way to unwind at the end of the day. And even today, the mere mention of this song is enough to bring a smile to my face. šŸ™‚ And till date, this song has remained THE best picturized song of Rahman and I am sure it is going to remain that way forever! The combination of A.R.Rahman’s music, Mani Ratnam’s excellent song picturization, Vairamuthu’s beautiful lyrics and P.C.Sreeram’s cinematography at its best! Now don’t tell me you don’t know which song this one is! šŸ˜‰

Kadhalikka neramillai

A couple days back, I saw a blue and white Plymouth car in Boat Club Road. Seeing the car reminded me of the movie, ‘Kadhalikka neramillai’ – Muthuraman leaving for picnic in the Plymouth car and V.S.Raghavan looking at the car in shock and surprise wondering how on earth his car ended up with this rich millionaire. ‘Kadhalikka neramillai’ is one of my favourite movies. It’s a movie that I am never tired of watching. The scene where Nagesh narrates the story of his movie to Balaiah and Balaiah’s reactions to it, the way Balaiah talks and treats Chidambaram/Muthuraman with so much respect (real bhaya bhakti? šŸ˜‰ ) completely unaware that he is being fooled by them, Nagesh trying to make Sacchu act are the scenes that instantly come to my mind every time I think I about the movie. Nagesh and Balaiah are the real stars of the movie.
